Active Learning Assignment #6

For both GOVT 2305 and 2306

So you might want to run for public office? (you never know)

For 2305, answer in terms of national office, for 2306 answer in terms of state or local office.

A few things to consider:
- What office do you want to run for?
- Are you qualified?
- How do you get on the ballot?
- What are the rules regarding campaign funding?
- etc...

Right now I'm only interested in the nuts and bolts of getting the right paperwork done.

A few places to look:

Federal Election Commission:
- Registering a candidate.

Texas Secretary of State:
Qualifications for All Public Offices.
- Running For a Local Office (City, School District, Other Districts).

Texas Ethics Commission:
First Steps for Candidates Running for a City Office.

General Advice:
- NPR: How to run for office.
