Video: What is a Constitution's Purpose?

This is oriented towards the United States Constitution, but the general points apply to the Texas Constitution as well. 

A constitution is a basic law for a sovereign government, such as the United States and each of the 50 states within it (let's not worry about those of other nations right now). It determines the rules for how government will operate. 

For example: 

- What authority allows the government to impose its will on the people?
- What is the extent of that authority? 
- How are the governing powers - legislative, executive, and judicial - implemented?
- How do people attain positions of power?
- What rights are retained by the people?

This is just a small list - we will discuss more.
