1 - Agency and fiduciary law governs the agent’s loyalty and care toward the athlete.
2 - State athlete-agent statutes govern registration, recruiting, contract disclosures, and penalties.
3 - Federal law, especially SPARTA, regulates dealings with student-athletes and related deceptive practices.
4 - Union, league, conference, school, and governing-body rules determine whether an agent can participate in a particular sport and what the agent may do.

The most important practical distinction is that registration as an athlete agent does not automatically authorize the person to practice law, manage investments, sell insurance, or negotiate in a unionized league without union certification.
