A little history - and a loot at Armistice Day and World War 1. Veteran's Day can be traced back to a celebration of the end of WW1 - the first major international military engagement the US was involved in. The US still had a string isolationist streak at that time - this would slowly ebb by the time WW2 ended.

Where is Syria anyway?
If we're going to war with it, we should at least know where it is. That's just common courtesy.
