In 2306 we discussed the uniqueness of cities in the American federal system, and mentioned that cities are different that states and counties - and probably nations as well - since they are economic entities primarily. Here's an argument that the best cities are those that are organized so that people are likely to interact with each other physically. This makes it easier to make friends.
