- Click here for the wiki.

The simple purpose of this section is to become familiar with the factors which tend to put Texas - politically - at odds with the national government. It may simply come down to the fact that the dominant strains of thought that leads to the unique nature of Texas' political outlook are not the same as those that lead to the outlook on the national level. This section should help to outline why the conflict we often see between Texas and the national government exists.

The Texas Declaration of Independence

- Click here for the wiki.

As with the national government, Texas has a Declaration of Independence. It has the same basic structure as the national document, as well as the same goal: to convince the world to support the move Texas is making against the country it is currently part of. We will read through it in class since it is a great way to get comfortable to the cultural differences between Texas and Mexico. The nature of these grievances will help up understand the what governmental structures and policies would dominate the state soon after - and to some degree today.
