I bet some of you feel the same way right now. ;)
Why are students required to take a government course in college even though they want nothing to do with politics? I understand that the state of Texas wants us to be informed and wants us to be able to make good political decisions but for most college students, government and the other required courses are just a waste of time and money. Most students do not care about these classes. They don't want to invest a whole semester studying and preparing for finals over a class that they do not need. Students go to college in order to obtain a degree in their chosen field, not to pay money to take ridiculous courses that are just reviewing what they learned in high school. As a student I want to learn as much as I can about the career that I have chosen, not take classes I do not like or classes that do not pertain to my major. Taking unneeded classes honestly just adds more stress to a college student. They are focusing and stressing about these classes instead of taking that energy and putting it towards a class they actually need. The classes should be a students choice. If they want to take a government class, let them take one. If they want to take a learning strategies class, let them take one. If they want to take an art appreciation class, let them take one. Do not "require" a student to take a useless class. It's almost over.
