From the Pearland Journal: Brazoria County voter turnout historically low

But we knew this already.

Brazoria County has historically had poor voter turnout at the polls, typically between five and seven percent. That means that approximately 10,000 out of almost 180,000 people determine county leadership. Pearland City Councilmember Keith Ordeneaux recently brought this issue up on social media: “During my time on council many of my views have been strengthened and confirmed. One of the most important of these is the lack of informed input from the public to their elected officials. I hear many people saying that government is out of control. I cannot totally disagree with these statements. So why do we feel that government is out of control? Why has this happened? What should be done to correct the problem? Where should we start to fix the problem?”

This story was published in 2014, but the figures for the election this past November are little better.
