Last we checked a moratorium was placed on the CPRIT's ability to award grants due to concerns about the procedures used to determine who got a grant and who did not. Concerns were raised that scientific peer review processes were not being used and that grants were handed out to companies that had connections with the CPRIT's board. This has raised questions about the viability of the program, which was approved - along with $3 billion in potential funding - by the voters in 2007.
The Texas Tribune reports that efforts are underway to make sure that projects that were underway when the moratorium was started are grappling with how to stay viable while oversight of the program is conducted.
