Did Romney's gaffe matter?

I haven't written on any of the gaffes the candidates have uttered, and their consequences, but Romney has engaged in enough to apparently worry the Republican Party leadership. His "I don't care about the very poor" has not been well received despite its being taken out of context. In the rest of his statement he supports the safety net for the poor.

Andrew Sullivan surveys conservative reaction and whether they might be experiencing "buyer's remorse." He points out the following graphic showing Romney's favorabililty ratings. Unfavorable beats favorable by almost 20 points and seem to be rising. Is he spending too much time talking to the media?
