OK, so a slept a little late and watched some of CBS This Morning in bed, but they had this great story on William Henry Harrison (the guy who was president for 30 days) and pointed out that the 1840 presidential race was the first "modern" race.
As 2302s begin discussing the presidency, and 2301s gear up for a discussion elections, it might be worth noting that presidential races are the only national political races in the US. It may well be that these races were responsible for helping the nation bond.
