From Frontline: How Texas became a "Red" State

We will discuss political organizations in Texas soon enough and try to outlining the process by which Texas shifted from a solid Democratic state to a relatively solid Republican one.

This Wikipedia entry on the Solid South might be helpful also. While Texas isn't exactly a southern state, it tends to vote in sync with the other states in the south east. This helps explain the politics associated with that tendency.
