Previous posts on ideology

One of the topics in the introductory slides - and one of the more important factors in contemporary politics - is ideology. The simple definition of ideology is a set of issue positions based on an underlying values, such as liberty or egalitarianism. Polls suggest that much of the polarization we've witnessed in recent years is due to liberals and conservatives staking out increasingly distinct positions on issues and digging in.

Since this has been topical throughout the life of this blog I've assembled a large number of posts on the subject. If you'd like, you might want to peruse through some. Understanding this concept helps clarify much of what does, and does not, happen in government.
